Baby carriers turn up on marketplace listings and resale sites at tempting prices. Here is what you give up when you buy that way.
Carriers sold through official channels are the ones that went through safety testing. Counterfeits of popular carriers exist, and they are not tested to any standard.
Most manufacturers only honour a warranty when the carrier was bought from an authorized seller. A grey market purchase can leave you with no recourse if a buckle or seam fails.
We buy direct, so you get the current version of a carrier, with any updates the maker has made, rather than old stock of a superseded design.
We are in contact with these makers. When a question comes up about fit, a recall, or a repair, we can go straight to them.
Most manufacturers publish a stockist or retailer list on their own website. If you are unsure about any seller, including us, look us up on the maker's site or email them. A legitimate retailer will never mind you checking.
Plenty of families buy and sell preloved carriers, and that is a good way to make babywearing affordable. Buy from someone you can ask questions of, check the fabric and fastenings carefully before use, and look the model up in our manual directory so you have the instructions. What we would avoid is an anonymous marketplace listing at a price well below retail on a current, in demand carrier.
